SEB named ‘Employer of Choice’

KUCHING: Local energy provider Sarawak Energy Berhad has been recognised by the international media for its exemplary employee engagement and understanding of the current competitive labour landscape.

The company was listed as one of the winners in the annual Human Resources director (HRD) Asia’s annual Employer of Choice report.

Sarawak Energy group chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili in commenting on the award said for the company, the people are its greatest asset.

“Sarawak Energy’s purpose driven culture translates into high employee engagement scores and a strong desire to continuously improve.

“Our workforce takes pride in what they do and are ever more willing to go the extra mile with a leadership team adept at turning challenges into opportunities,” he said in a statement today.

Sharbini noted that the most recent example of Sarawak Energy employees’ agility and adaptability has been their response to Covid-19, and the acceleration towards digitalisation.

“This is reflected in the majority of our workforce who worked from home. We strove to keep everyone engaged by stepping up our internal communication.

“This was aimed at keeping people informed and encouraging a culture of caring for each other, while maintaining focus on our corporate mission which is to keep the lights on for our customers,” he said.

Meanwhile, the HRD team in unveiling the list of winners for the award said the chosen employers portrayed impressive, uncompromising attitude towards engaging and enabling employees throughout their careers.

“The winners of HRD’s annual award boast high employee engagement scores and low turnover rates for the last 12 months.

“Their success in recruiting, engaging and retaining staff is the result of uncompromising, best-in-class practices across 11 key areas impacting the overall employee experience.

“The employers listed are top-performing companies pushing the envelope of best practice for the rest of the industry to follow,” said Key Media Apac managing director Justin Kennedy, publisher of HRD Asia.
