Second consecutive day without new case

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded no new positive Covid-19 cases yesterday for the second consecutive day, with the total number of positive cases in the state thus far remaining at 571.

In a statement yesterday, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said that one new case had recovered and been discharged from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) yesterday.

“The total number of positive Covid-19 cases which have recovered and been discharged is 538 or 94.22 percent,” they said.

They said that 16 individuals were still being treated at hospital isolation wards. Of these, six were at SGH in Kuching, one was at Sibu Hospital, and nine were at Bintulu Hospital.

The Covid-19 death toll has remained at 17 since the first positive case was reported on March 13.

“Fifty-four new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases have been reported, and three are still awaiting laboratory results,” they said.

The committee reported that 32 persons-under-surveillance (PUS) had been checked into hotels on Tuesday to undergo quarantine, bringing the total number of PUS at 13 hotels to 844 while 17,017 PUS had completed their quarantine period.

Meanwhile, SDMC stated that 2,164 premises had been surveyed for compliance with directives under the recovery movement control order, consisting of supermarkets (357), restaurants (489), factories (26), banks (192), government offices (68), hawkers (19), public markets (107), places of worship (110), recreational places (60), construction sites (33), and others (703).

On Op Benteng, they said that there were six roadblocks in five districts yesterday, namely two in Lundu and one each in Bau, Serian, Sri Aman, and Lubok Antu.

“From these six roadblocks, a total of 1,531 vehicles were checked,” they said.
