MIRI: To date, 12,000 dogs have been vaccinated with anti-rabies vaccine throughout this city. The free anti-rabies vaccine programme was introduced in the city since February last year.

Miri Division assistant veterinary officer Zulkifli Stephen, said the department had received good responses from dog owners to curb the rabies epidemic.

“With this opportunity, I hope that all local dog owners will come for the second dose of vaccine. We will carry out the programme every Sunday at different locations in order to cover various areas comprehensively.

“Members of public will be given updates via radio and newspapers, and Miri Facebook page,” he said when met by reporters at an anti-rabies vaccination programme here.

Zulkifli pointed out that counters for the second round of vaccination started last Sunday, and he urged dog owners to come with their pets. The first dose was given in February last year.

A total of 11 areas in the division have been declared infected by rabies, namely, Piasau Jaya, Lutong Shell, Kuala Baram, Jalan Airport Miri, Holiday Park, Permyjaya, Krokop 5, Long Miri, Kampung Bakam, Jalan Beraya/Kejapil and Taman Jelita.
