Second phase of vaccination begins in Sibu

SIBU: The Sibu Indoor Stadium, which was selected as a vaccination centre for the second phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, on Monday (Apr 19) saw quite a number of recipients, categorised as high-risk groups, the elderly as well as the disabled, getting their first dose of vaccine.

The programme took place between 8am and 5pm.

Present to officiate at the programme was Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing and Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee.

Also with him were Senator Robert Lau Hui Yiew, acting Sibu Resident Wong Hie Sieng and Sibu Division Health Officer Dr Teh Jo Hun.

A total of 96 staff from the Health Ministry (MOH) and its volunteers were assigned to facilitate the programme.

Meanwhile, state Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing, at a press conference on Saturday (Apr 17), said a total of 929,435 people are targeted to receive the vaccine in this phase.

“The second phase of the vaccination programme for Kuching, Serian, Sri Aman, Betong, Kapit, Mukah and Miri will begin on Apr 23.

“Samarahan, Bintulu and Limbang will have theirs on Apr 24 and Sarikei on Apr 30,” he said. The movement and order of the public today (Apr 19) was in compliance with the standard operating procedures as they were monitored and controlled by the MOH staff and other authorities.
