KUCHING: The Second Sarawak Short  Course Sprint 2022 will see swimmers from Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Thailand dive and splash at Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre here on August 13 and 14.

Five hundred swimmers are expected to take part in the event, organised by Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC) in collaboration with Sarawak Sport Corporation (SSC), and supported by Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Ministry.

PASC organising committee led by president Kapitan Tan Kun Gee paid a courtesy call on Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah at his office in Baitulmakmur 2 Building here on Tuesday.

Tan handed over an invitation letter to Abdul Karim to close the event.

The delegation briefed the minister on the progress of the upcoming event, which will see more teams coming to Sarawak for the first time.

According to the club’s press statement, the aim of the competition is to provide opportunity and a platform for beginners and junior swimmers to showcase their skills at a suitable competitive environment as well as to identify potential swimmers and high achievers.

In 2019, the First Sarawak Short Course Sprint 2019 attracted 376 swimmers from Indonesia and Malaysia, with Power Aquatics Swimming Club emerged as the overall team champion.
