KUCHING: The Public Works Department (JKR) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) on Monday (April 18).

According to Sarawak Public Communications Unit, the MoU would allow, assist and support BEM to establish and operate its secretariat office at the Sarawak JKR headquarters at Wisma Saberkas here as well as to provide administrative support to registered engineers and individuals.

Sarawak JKR director Datu Ir Zuraimi Sabki said it was his priority to bring up the wishes of many registered practitioners from Sarawak so that BEM could pay attention to various issues faced by them.

“With the establishment of the BEM secretariat office in Kuching, the relationship between registered practitioners and BEM can be strengthened through more effective communication.

“As the director of Sarawak JKR, I welcome the set-up of the BEM secretariat located at Wisma Saberkas,” he said during the signing ceremony at the Sarawak JKR auditorium.
