DARO: A fishing trip ended tragically when a pillion rider died from severe injuries after falling from a motorcycle into the path of an oncoming tanker lorry along KM12, Jalan Kampung Loba Balu yesterday (Apr 27).

The accident, involving a tanker lorry laden with palm oil and a motorcycle, happened around 5.20pm when both vehicles were travelling in opposite directions.

Daro police chief DSP Neil Baginda said that prior to the crash, the victim and his friend were riding a motorcycle en route to Kampung Pergau after a fishing activity in Bruan area.

“The victim, carrying a rattan basket full of goods and catch, is believed to have fallen from the motorcycle, landing in the opposite lane where the tanker truck driven by a 31-year-old man, was travelling from Matu to Bintulu.

“Despite attempts to brake and avoid the victim, the collision was unavoidable,” he said.

As a result, 42-year-old Mohamad Iskandar Abdullah was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics due to severe injuries to the head, body and legs.
