Security guard fined for possession, drug abuse

KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court fined a security guard RM5,400 for having 0.04g of methamphetamine and drug abuse.

Before Magistrate Siti Farah Ibrahim, Norasyriq, 35, entered a plea of guilty to two charges read to him by an interpreter today (Jan 26).

He was charged with possessing 0.04g of methamphetamine under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952, and under Section 12 (3) of the same Act.

At around 1.50pm on Sept 18, 2022, he was believed to have had the drugs in the security room at an apartment in Lorong Bayor Bukit 7.

If found guilty, the maximum penalty is RM100,000 in fines or five years in prison.

Magistrate Siti Farah meted out a RM2,900 fine, in default three months in jail, for the offence.

In the second offence, he was charged with taking amphetamine and methamphetamine.

When he was apprehended at the Office of Narcotics Crime Investigation Division IPD Kuching at around 2.45pm on Sept 18, 2022, he tested positive for drugs.

He was charged under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952 and was subject to Section 15 (1) of the same law’s penalties.

For the offence, the court imposed a RM2,500 fine or three months in jail.

Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin handled the prosecution of the case while the accused was unrepresented.
