KUCHING: Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and its subsidiaries will be adopting the Anti-Bribery Management System to fight corruption and to strengthen corporate governance.

SEDC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Husain said the system would complement existing internal policies to better address issues related to malpractices detected within the organisation.

“The initiative is part of SEDC’s continuous efforts to strengthen its commitment towards corporate governance among its staff and subsidiaries.

“This will enable us to fulfil our stakeholders’ expectations and to deliver the various projects entrusted to us by the state government,” he said at the closing ceremony of the Organisational Anti-Corruption (OACP) Workshop 2020 for SEDC Sarawak at Grand Margherita Hotel here, on Friday (Sept 11).

Abdul Aziz also said that the workshop was in line with the state government’s call for its machinery to have its OACP per the National Anti-Corruption Plan, which was launched in January last year.

“This demonstrates our commitment to stamping out corruption, which remains at low risk in SEDC and its subsidiaries.”

The three-day event was organised by the Integrity and Ombudsman Unit under the Chief Minister’s Office in collaboration with the organisation’s Integrity and Risk Management Unit.

Among the key issues covered during the OACP workshop were strengthening of corporate governance within the organisation, safeguarding the integrity, and anti-corruption planning as well as execution, monitoring, and control measures.
