KUCHING: SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd recently inked hydrogen technology partnership with Petronas Technology Ventures Sdn Bhd (PTVSB) at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC) 2022.

The Heads of Agreement (HOA) aimed to establish an assembly plant for the production of proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysers (H2PEM) for hydrogen production in Sarawak to support a growing demand for PEM electrolysers worldwide.

Other green hydrogen technology deployments in the state as well as other regions are also to be explored.

The wholly owned subsidiary of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), in a statement, said the HOA also includes the collaboration with PTVSB to supply hydrogen production systems to the Rembus Hydrogen Plant and Re-fuelling Depot.

It catered to supplying hydrogen to the upcoming public transportation system, Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) by SEDC’s Sarawak Metro, which will be driven by hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

By venturing into the assembly and manufacture of electrolysers, the corporation said Sarawak will again take an active role in the hydrogen value chain.

It also will enable the contribution to economic growth for its people while ensuring Sarawak is on the right track to reduce the effects of climate change.

“Sarawak is blessed in many aspects especially in the abundance of natural resources, including water, and with affordable hydroelectric power, has allowed us to explore green hydrogen production as well as expansion into other hydrogen related technologies throughout the value chain, which supports our Green Energy Agenda,” it said.

Meanwhile, SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz noted that developing such synergistic joint ventures would play a part in enabling opportunities to our own talent development as we engage in the technical & technological transfer of knowledge to our own local workforce.
