KUCHING: The Kuching Health Department has issued an advisory urging individuals who have been bitten or scratched by cats or dogs from November 2023 until now and have not sought medical attention to promptly visit the nearest clinics.
In a Facebook post today, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng urged the public to report any instances of being scratched or bitten by animals to seek medical care to prevent the spread of rabies.
The areas in question are Jalan Chawan, Jalan Dato Bandar, Jalan Suadi Haji Arshad, Jalan Wan Abdul Rahman, Jalan Chong Ted Tsuing, Jalan Tabuan Dayak, Jalan Penyau, Jalan Sekolah, Jalan Wan Alwi, Jalan Nyatoh, Jalan Urat Mata, Jalan Foochow 1 and Jalan Bayor Bukit.

The designated clinics for medical care include Tanah Puteh Health Clinic and Tabuan Community Clinic.
On Tuesday, a suspected rabid dog linked to nine reported bite cases near Jalan Chawan-Jalan Wan Alwi was captured.
However, efforts are ongoing to locate a second dog suspected of carrying rabies.
MBKS has also announced plans to intensify vaccination programmes to tackle the escalating rabies situation.
The frequency of these programmes will increase from twice a year to four times a year, aiming to provide better protection against the potential spread of rabies.
