KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has appealed to the public to seek consent from the council before extending their residences.

Its mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said during extension work, many drainage holes were sealed up, making it difficult for the drain flushing process.

“If the drainage holes are sealed up, it will be difficult for contractors to clean and flush the drains.

“Do not carry out the extension work on your own. If it is difficult for contractors to clean drains, it will be costly and cost the public money.”

Wee explained that when the drainage holes were sealed up, the workers had to use extra equipment to spray the inner parts of the drain and then suck the contents out with another tube.

“This process will help to clear the issues of flood and dengue.

“The clearing of the drains is one of the precaution measures taken up by the council for the monsoon season. We have also started to trim the trees,” explained the mayor.

“Currently, there are about 500 to 600 houses in Jalan Taman Riverview Timur which are divided into three zones, namely Zone A, B and C.

All will be going through the drain flushing process,” he said when met by reporters here at Jalan Taman Riverview Timur yesterday. Pencakmekar, the MBKS drain flushing contractor, which started work last week, said the process would take up to 2 to 3 weeks to complete.
