SELANGAU: All residents in the Selangau parliamentary constituency should work together to ensure the victory of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) here during the 15th general election (GE15).

Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang said that there are several potential candidates for the Selangau parliamentary seat and the top leadership will choose the candidate who can wrest back the seat in GE15.

“Our priority is to ensure that GPS can take back the Selangau parliamentary seat. Since this area was won by Baru Bian (from the opposition), we have not felt any development projects or minor rural project (MRP) grants here.

“This is the reason why he (Baru) is not interested to retain his seat in Selangau again. He is aware that if he competes here, he will surely lose.

“What is important is that we all must work together to ensure the victory of GPS in this area regardless of who the candidate is chosen by the top leadership,” he stressed.

He said this in his speech recently when attending Penghulu Julia Awal’s Thanksgiving Ceremony, in conjunction with her appointment as the Penghulu for Tamin and to celebrate the victory of the Tamin district polling centres (PDM) during the last state election.

Gira thanked the Sarawak government for increasing the number of penghulu in the Selangau district which used to have five penghulu and now increased to nine penghulu.

He said, with the addition of the penghulu quota, administrative affairs in the district would be smoother.

“Now in the area (Tamin state constituency) there are more than 400 longhouses and out of the number, 300 longhouses are under the administration of the Selangau District Office,” he said.

Also present were the political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Edwin Banta, Pemancha Mathew Ganggang, Penghulu Julia Awal, and others.
