SIBU: The construction of the RM5 million Selangau Waterfront is expected to be completed by March 2021, said Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira.

He said the project is among the ones approved by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during his walkabout in Selangau bazaar on May last year.

“It will take approximately 18 months to be completed,” he said, adding that the implementing agency is Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC).

He told reporters this after a ground breaking ceremony for Selangau Waterfront at Batang Mukah riverbank here yesterday.

In addition to the waterfront project, Gira said the chief minister has approved five projects in the Tamin constituency.

Among the projects are the upgrading of Jalan Pasai Siong Ulu, Siong Tengah and Siong Ili with an allocation of RM17 million, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.

The other projects are a new Selangau District Office which is under construction (RM5 mln), a mini sport complex which is in the tendering process (RM10 mln), a hall for SK Tong Ah which has been completed (RM500,000) and the upgrading of Jalan Bawang Kemena which is also completed (RM2 mln).
