Seminar on durian planting attracts over 500 people

SERIAN: A total of 505 people attended a seminar called “Upskilling and Potential of Durian Planting Industry” organised by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) at Dewan Tayung Langui in Kampung Pichin, Jalan Serian-Tebedu, yesterday.

About 200 of them from around Sarawak were those who registered online through a channel provided by Fama.

The rest came from Tebedu, Serian, Bukit Semuja and Kedup areas. The distance from Kuching to Kampung Pichin is about 76km.

The speaker was agricultural consultant cum durian advisor, Lim Chin Khee, and Top Fruit director Dr Tan Sue Yee.

During the seminar, the attendees were exposed to four focus topics, namely, Durian Planting Agronomy, Direction of Durian Industry in Malaysia, Potential of Durian in the Future and the Mixture of Mature Durian Plants and Seeds.

The seminar was aimed at raising public awareness of the importance of proper and accurate durian planting.

Deputy Chief Minister cum Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas officiated at the seminar’s opening that was also attended by Fama Sarawak director Shahid Abu Bakar, Fama Sarawak deputy director Suudi Arof and Fama senior director of marketing education and consultative services, Mohamad Harun.
