KUCHING: Senate President Datuk Mutang Tagal passed away today at 11.46 am. He was 70.

According to the Office of the Senate, Mutang died at the National Heart Institute, Kuala Lumpur.

He had been undergoing treatment at the heart institute after falling ill during a working trip to Azerbaijan on May 6.

He became the first Orang Ulu of Lun Bawang ethnicity to be appointed as the 20th Senate President on Feb 19.

He had served as Bukit Mas MP from 1982 to 1990.

The late Mutang’s wake will be held at the lobby of Nirvana Centre Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (May 11) from 10am to 2pm.

On Sunday (May 12), his remains will be brought to BEM Airport Road Church, Miri, which is expected to arrive at 10am.

A prayer session will be held on Monday (May 13) at BEM Canada Hill Church in Miri from 9am and he will be laid to rest at SIB Cemetary, Lambir.
