Senator gives grant to recipients in Kapit

KAPIT: Senator Datuk Paul Igai from PDP (Progressive Democratic Party) on Thursday (June 18) presented grants to recipients in Kapit.

The contributions were from the Special Grant (by the government) allocated through senators for the year 2020.

The simple handing-over ceremony was held at the office of the secretary of Kapit District Council (KDC). Also at the function were KDC secretary Jabang Juntan, Deputy Walikota of KDC Watson Awan and Assistant Principal of  SMK Kapit Kuiek Boon Siau.

Among those benefitting from the special grant were Parents -Teachers Association (PTA) of SMK Kapit that received RM5,000 and  the Village Security and Development Committee  (JKKK) of a longhouse headed by Joshua Dominic Runggom.

Receiving the grant on behalf of the PTA of SMK Kapit was its chairman Kelimbik Sibak while Tuai Rumah Joshua received the cheque on behalf of his JKKK.

When speaking to reporters Senator Datuk Paul said he  thanked Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for allocating the special grant through senators to lend help to needy organisations.

He told that apart from the recipients from Kapit, others receiving the special grant allocated through him were from Bau, Lundu, Mas Gading, Stampin, Serian,Selangau, Julau, Igan and Pandan.

Meanwhile, on behalf of the PTA of SMK Kapit Kelimbik also thanked the senator for his fund allocation to the school’s PTA.

“This proves that Paul is concerned about the welfare of the students and education,” he said adding the fund was very much needed in the running of various co-curricular activities for students in the examination class such as seminars, motivational talks and others to prepare them to sit for public examinations.
