MARUDI: Water transport is also used to send food aid under the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) 6.0 package to residents living in riverine and rural areas.

The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), State Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker, Datuk Gerawat Gala who is also Mulu assemblyman, said this is to ensure that residents in remote areas are able to receive their food baskets in an efficient manner.

This is because there are still some villages in the Mulu constituency which can only be reached via river routes.

During the delivery operation on Monday, a ship was used from Marudi town through the Baram River up to Kampung Long Panai in Sungai Tutoh.

A total of 10 villages with 334 household heads received the BKSS 6.0 food baskets, including those in Batu Belah (12 packs); Long Pahlo (six); Long Ukok (10); Kuala Tutoh (73); Rumah Gerinang, Logan Tasong (11); Long Panai (129); Rumah Jipun, Sg Gaong (16); Kampung Seberang Lubok Tumau (14); Rumah Mugang, Tanjung Upar (29); and Rumah Vincent, Tanjung Upar (34).
