Senior citizen claims losing over RM1,500 to tricksters

SARIKEI: A female senior citizen claimed she lost over RM1,500  tothree unknown individuals at Jalan Wharf here last Tuesday.

Sarikei District Police chief, Superintendent Mat Jusoh Mohamad said the incident occurred around 8.50am when the 60-year-old from Sungai Selidap was approached by two men and a woman who offered to help her to register for E-Kasih.

After some coaxing, the victim followed the trio to a car and was taken to Wisma Jubli Mutiara. While on the way there, one of the suspects told her to remove all her jewellery and kept them in her handbag.

Before entering the government building, the victim was told by one of the suspects to hand over her handbag to her for safekeeping and they would wait for her in the car. However, when she got out of the building after registering for E-Kasih the trio was nowhere to be seen.

Mat Jusoh said following the incident, the victim lodged a police report.

“She reported losing a necklace, a ring, a cheque amounting to RM600, an ATM card and RM30. The estimated total loss is RM1,530,” he said.
