KUCHING: A septuagenarian was fined RM1,000 in default one month jail after he pleaded guilty to criminal intimidation today.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi sentenced the 78-year-old man under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

Kong from Jalan Semaba admitted committing criminal intimidation by threatening to hurt 63-year-old Voon Ah Joon over a debt of RM3,000.

He committed the offence about 6am at Taman Sri Emas in Jalan Batu Kawa here on August 3.

According to the facts of case, on the day of the incident Voon lodged a police report alleging that the accused met him as early as 6am to ask him to return RM3,000.

Voon told Kong that he had paid the RM3,000 debt through a lawyer on January 26, 2019.

However, the accused was not happy and told the complainant that he would hire a hitman to make sure that the complainant would die.

Hence, being afraid of the threat and for his own safety, the complainant lodged a police report.
