KUCHING: An octogenarian was killed while crossing Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Rahman Yaakub leading to Satok here early yesterday morning.
The incident occurred at about 6.30am and the victim was flung about 10 metres away upon impact after being knocked by a 34-year-old woman driving a Perodua MyVi which came from the Petra Jaya direction.
The victim, identified as 88-year-old Shamsuddin Abidin, died on the spot while the front part of the car was badly damaged.
The accident, which occurred during the peak hours when parents send their children to school and head to work caused massive traffic congestion on routes leading to Satok from Petra Jaya.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
