SERIAN: “Even with no elections, I am always on the ground, working closely with the people,” said Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem.

He pointed out that he would always make time for the folk of Serian even though his job as a federal minister required him to work in Kuala Lumpur.

“I have been a representative of the people for 32 years. I have always been around.

“My presence here today is not because of the upcoming election but because I am always on the ground,” he stressed.

He told the media this after officiating at the Kampung Hulu suspension bridge here today.

Commenting on the possibility of a snap general election (GE15), he said the decision for him to continue representing his constituency was up to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He was confident that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) would win all three Bidayuh-majority parliamentary constituencies in the upcoming GE15.

For the record, Riot, who is also the Prime Minister’s special envoy to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, won the Serian parliamentary seat in 1990 and was later re-elected for six consecutive terms beginning in 1995.

In 2018, he defended Serian with a 9,905 vote majority against Edward Andrew Luak (Democratic Action Party) and independent candidate Senior William Rade.
