KUCHING: Representatives of Sarawak, Serian FA found themselves a good chance to follow the footsteps of Kuching FA, which became champions of the People’s Football League (Liga Bolasepak Rakyat) 2016/2017.
Serian FA qualified into the final after defeating the squad from Kelantan, Bachok with 4-2 on aggregate in the semi-finals.
Serian won 2-1 in the both action in the home and away matches.
With the sweet success, Serian will face another representative of Kelantan to determining the winners on May 13 and 21.
Apparently, Serian hold the advantage, because they will play in Kota Bharu in the first leg on May 13 while the second leg will take place at the State Stadium here on May 21.
For team manager Phillip Jabu, the historic route to the final would probably end with a greater history if they can become the champions.
More significantly, Serian FA success to the final should create the awareness that Sarawak local teams are capable of success at the national level.
The success of Kuching FA to become champions show that Sarawak has many great local players who can play in the national arena. This is the best opportunity for Serian FA to retain the title which was won last year by Kuching FA and let the trophy remain in the Land of the Hornbills.
