“Hence, we need to aggressively develop the transportation industry in the state,” he stressed.

He then said that Sarawak has made significant economic progress over the years, with the gross domestic product (GDP) increasing from RM119.1 billion in 2015 to RM139.1 billion in 2019.

“Its per capita income has also expanded from RM44,089 to RM55,314 in the same period,” he said.

Lee then said his ministry will also contribute towards achieving the objectives of the Eleventh Malaysia Plan (11MP).

“This will be done by enhancing the quality of life through the development of an integrated public transportation system in the state, which is one of the seven strategic initiatives,” he said.

Being a newly established ministry, Lee said with limited manpower and resources, his ministry cannot do things entirely on their own.

“Thus, my ministry will establish smart collaborations with other relevant agencies to plan and implement transportation related initiatives and projects,” he pointed out.
