TAMIN assembyman has proposed the establishment of a Rascom Development Agency (Rasda) to aid development in the Pakan, Julau, Kanowit, Selangau and Tatau areas.

‘’These will cover five constituencies namely Meluan, Ngemah, Machan, Tamin and Kakus that comprise over three million hectares of land and a population of 140,000 people,” said Christopher Gira.

He said this in his motion of thanks to the Head of State’s address at the DUN sitting on Monday.

Gira also requested for a hospital to be built in Selangau to allow for healthcare facilities to be within commuting distance of the locals, besides preventing overcrowding in hospitals nearby.

“The population in Selangau is increasing every year. This could be due to the migration of people to the oil palm sector within these areas. There is a population of 45,000 people in Selangau and the community should be provided with proper health facilities.

“All this while, the people from Selangau would have to seek treatment at either Sibu or Mukah hospital, which are both located around an hour from Selangau,” he pointed out.

Aside from that, schools in Tamin, namely SK St Mark, SK Sg Buloh, SK Ng Arau and SK Matthew, are also in need of upgrading, said Gira.

‘’For SK Ng Kua and SK Ng Selangau, these schools need to be relocated to higher ground as these schools are subject to floods every year.

He also pointed out that the current Selangau Education Office is being operated at a rented shop lot.

“As such, I request the government to consider building an office complex for this purpose’’, urged Gira.
