MIRI: A proposal and application to establish a Cure and Care Rehabilitation Centre (CCRC) in northern Sarawak has been brought to the Parliament.

Deputy Health Minister of Malaysia Lukanisman Awang Sauni said an application letter has also been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) for consideration to establish the centre.

“Elected representatives (YBs) in the northern region of Sarawak had voiced out their views on the importance of the establishment of the centre here,” he told the local media yesterday.

Lukanisman, who is also Sibuti Member of Parliament, said this when met at the Anti-Drug Day (HAD 2023) programme in Kampung Subak, Bekenu.

“In fact, Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Rosey Yunus and Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development Dr Ripin Lamat have voiced out their views on the setting up of the CCRC in the northern region,” he said.

He added that Rosey had spoken to him about a suitable site for the CCRC.

“I have also written a letter to the KDN to consider establishing at least a rehabilitation centre in the northern zone of Sarawak,” he explained.

He added that the rehabilitation centre would cover the districts of Miri, Limbang, Lawas and Baram.

“This is not to say that the northern zone of Sarawak has many drug addiction problems…but this rehabilitation centre will at least be able to reduce the costs in helping drug addicts among the young people,” he said.
