KUCHING: Police on Saturday arrested seven persons at two separate locations for operating vehicle repair workshops on an unauthorised day.

The arrests were made at Jalan Pending and Taman Sri Wangi, Petra Jaya, here.

Kuching district police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said that the first arrest was made at 10.30am, following information received on a workshop operating at Jalan Pending.

“A multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) patrol unit was despatched to the scene and found four men and a woman, aged between 19 and 40 years old, running their business.

“The second arrest was made after a raid was conducted at Taman Sri Wangi, Petra Jaya at 12.20pm and two men, aged 41 and 42 years old, were found working,” he said in a statement.

Awang Din said that the offenders failed to produce valid reasons and were found defying the movement control order (MCO) for operating a workshop on a day which is not allowed by the government.

Investigations are done under Regulation 3 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020 and can be punished under Regulation 11, and Section 186 of the Penal Code.

The suspects will be referred to the State Prosecutor’s Office for order to accuse them in court.

He added that the police will continue to patrol and monitor workshops and action will be taken against any individual including traders who failed to comply with the MCO directive.
