KUCHING: Seven Sarawakians are representing the state in the 2020 National-level Al-Quran Tilawah (recital) and Hafazan (memorisation) competition which took place yesterday and will continue until Feb 21 at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) in Kota Kinabalu.

They are Hadi Mohd Sharkawi and Nursyakura Mohammad Musa for qari (male) and qariah (female) category in Tilawah Al-Quran respectively, while the Hafazan event will see Muhammad Eilya Jamsari (Juzuk 1-30), Mohamad Suib Annuar (Juzuk 1-20), Maryam Najihah Jamlie (Juzuk 1-20), Abang Hishamuddin Abang Sapuan (Juzuk 1-10) and Nurul Izzah Mukhali (Juzuk 1-10) taking part in it.

All seven representatives won the state-level competition in Miri which enabled them to qualify for the national-level.

Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC) recently organised a ceremony to celebrate the Sarawak representatives on Feb 12 at Majma Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah building here.

The event was officiated at by SIC president Datuk Misnu Taha.

Also present were deputy director Norita Bawi and senior assistant director (Dakwah Division) Sukarno Saini.
