KUCHING: Seven active criminal syndicates have been successfully dismantled so far this year, thus reducing the crime rate in Kuching.

According to Kuching District Police chief, ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai, actions have been taken against six of the syndicates, involving a total of 18 suspects, under the Prevention of Crime Act (POCA).

“All these syndicates actively committed crimes such as burglaries, robberies, thefts, stealing of cables, car thefts and motorcycle thefts,” he said.

Abang Ahmad was speaking to reporters after attending the monthly police assembly at the District Police Headquarters at Jalan SImpang Tiga here yesterday.

“Because of this, we managed to bring down the rate of motorcycle thefts in the district and many arrests were carried out against those who used and owned stolen motorcycles,” he added.

“Meanwhile, in the fight against narcotics, from January to May, Kuching Police seized various types of drugs worth a total of RM1,137,372. I hope enforcement against drug abuse and drug trafficking will continue to be enhanced,” said Abang Ahmad.
