KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here ordered a deputy general manager of a government agency to be remanded for seven days on suspicion of being involved in corruption.
Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi ordered the 57-year-old suspect to be remanded to assist in the investigation of a corruption case until Oct 19.
The suspect was arrested under Section 17 (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 on suspicion of receiving bribes of more than RM36,000 from a contractor as an incentive to facilitate and expedite the payment of construction work claims that have been completed from 2015 to 2018.
In the seven-day remand application requested by the MACC investigating officer, the court was told that the MACC needed time to record the suspect’s conversation.
The officer will also record the conversation of witnesses who have relevant knowledge on bribery requests by the suspect as well as tracking and recording the conversations of individuals involved in the corruption case.
