Seven detained in cockfighting raid

MIRI: Five elderly men were among seven male suspects detained by Miri Criminal Investigation (CID) Department during an operation dubbed ‘Ops Limau’ on Sunday (Feb 14) afternoon for their alleged involvement in cockfighting activities.

All suspects, aged 34, 42, 51, 55, 63, 68 and 76, were hauled up during the 2.50pm raid at an open area in Pujut Corner.

Police also seized four live cockerels, said Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari when contacted.

All suspects and the seized items were brought to the Miri central police station for questioning.

The case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance 1960, which carries a maximum fine of RM1,000 and imprisonment of up to three months.
