Seven injured in overturned bus

SRI AMAN: Seven individuals including a bus driver sustained injuries while two others were unharmed when the bus they were in overturned.

This happened after an express bus they were travelling in, was believed to have gone out of control and crashed at Bukit Begunan, KM43, Sri Aman-Kuching Road on Monday (Nov 2).

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu stated that the accident occurred around 6pm when the express bus was heading to Sri Aman.

Investigations found that the bus transporting nine individuals including the driver, was heading downhill at Bukit Begunan before it lost control and overturned at the said location.

As a result of the crash, a 55-year-old man suffered a fractured left arm and a fractured right leg and six others including the driver, aged 13 to 57, sustain minor injuries. Two other passengers aged 45 and 49, were unharmed.

Sri Aman firefighters helped to extricate one of the victims while, others managed to get out safely.

Alexson noted that the victims were taken to Sri Aman Hospital for further treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
