Seven new clusters detected in state

KUCHING: Seven new Covid-19 clusters were reported in Sarawak on Sunday (Aug 8).

Four were community clusters while two were workplace clusters and one institution cluster.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the first community cluster, known as the Lorong Merbau cluster, involved several family members staying in Lorong Merbau, Kampung Rampangai Phase Two, Jalan Sultan Tengah in Kuching.

Of the 23 people, who were tested, 22 including the index case tested positive, while one was still awaiting the test result.

The second community cluster, known as the Kampung Pulo Ulu cluster, involved a village located at Jalan Kampung Panglima Haji Seman Ulu in Petra Jaya, Kuching.

Of the 119 people, who were tested, 23 including the index case were positive while 96 were negative.

The third community cluster was the Taman Malihah cluster which involved a housing estate in Jalan Batu Kawa-Matang in Matang, Kuching.

Of the 176 people, who were tested, 40 people including the index case were positive while 136 were negative.

The fourth community cluster, known as the Kampung Pandan Cluster, involved several family members in a village located at Jalan Belungei, Pandan in Lundu.

Of the 29 people who were tested, nine including the index case were positive while the rest were negative.

All positive cases are now receiving treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) in Kuching.

Of the two workplace clusters, which were detected, one was in Tatau and the other in Sibu.

The Jalan Buan cluster involved a restaurant at Jalan Buan, Pasar Baru Tatau in Tatau. Twelve out of the 21 people tested including the index case were positive, while nine were awaiting their test results.

The positive cases are now receiving treatment at the Bintulu Hospital and the Bintulu PKRC.

Another workplace cluster is the Jalan Ding Lik Kwong Two cluster, which involved the residence of a wiring company located at Jalan Ding Lik Kwong in Sibu.

Of the 30 people who were tested, 15 were positive, 13 negative while two were awaiting test results. All positive cases are now receiving treatment at the Sibu Hospital and the Sibu PKRC.

Meanwhile, the Jalan Stutong Baru cluster is an institution cluster which involved several occupants of an elderly care centre located at Jalan Stutong Baru in Kuching. Of the 115 people tested, 22 were positive while 93 were negative.

The SDMC also reported the end of the Kilometre 23 Jalan Puncak Borneo cluster in Kuching as no new local transmission cases were reported in the last 28 days.

On Sunday, there were still 89 active clusters in the state.
