SADONG JAYA: The ‘womenpreneurs’ of Batang Sadong parliamentary constituency had taken a further step forward as their sewing skills are expanded through the production of face masks that not only reflect the uniqueness of Sarawak’s heritage and culture, but also put emphasis on high quality.

Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the wearing of face masks would become a continuous trend in the ‘new normal’ according to the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the National Security Council (MKN) and the Ministry of Health (MOH).

This then gave her the idea to train the women in Batang Sadong in sewing skills which can be passed on to the local community who might be interested in venturing into the craft and cottage industry.

“Those involved in the first phase of sewing face masks course are mainly housewives and some are unemployed.

“Therefore, with these new skills, they will be able to diversify their sewing skills to produce new products that are in demand today,” she said when officiating at the course’s postponement yesterday.
