PAKAN: An elderly man who was reported missing while looking for edible palm pith (umbut) in a forest near Rh Layang, Ulu Nunggang, has been found safe and sound yesterday (July 29).

The man identified as 69-year-old Ajai Dana was reported to have gone missing for more than 30 hours after leaving his house around 8am on Saturday (July 28).

He was discovered by rescuers about 1km from the entrance to the forest at around 2.15pm.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said Ajai was dressed in a short-sleeved T-shirt and shorts when the rescue team found him.

The team later took him back to his family and the search and rescue (SAR) operation was called off around 4pm.

Earlier, Ajai’s family had carried out an initial search when he did not return home but the search was to no avail.

It then prompted his family to lodge a missing person’s report and firemen from Bintangor and Sarikei stations as well as the police and the Civil Defence Force (APM) were deployed to the scene to commence the search.

Bomba photo shows the SAR members set out to look for Ajai yesterday (July 29).
