KUCHING: Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) blood bank is calling for eligible and new donors to assist the hospital in increasing their O-type blood supply, which is currently declining.

According to a statement yesterday, the O-type blood supply is decreasing due to the increase in emergency cases as well as increased usage of O-type blood during treatment.

It added that the number of Muslim donors also declined significantly during the fasting month due to the limited blood donation time.

To ensure the blood bank does not face a shortage of supply, the SGH mobile unit will be stationed at AEON Mall (Level 2) on June 2 and 3.

Blood donors are reminded to bring along their record booklet, while first-time donors just need to present their MyKad.

Donors are advised to get at least five hours of sleep the night before donating and not to come on an empty stomach.
