KUCHING: International oil and gas company, Shell Malaysia, will continue to help improve social development in Sarawak.

Its Social Performance manager Iris Soh Hui Hsuen said the Shell Malaysia Sustainable Development Grants enabled the oil and gas player to engage with local non-government organisations.

“Shell Malaysia would like to thank the state government for its tremendous support for our sustainable development grant programme.

“Through this programme, Shell is working to engage further with local communities around us to exchange knowledge, impart skills and create new partnerships,” she said in her speech at the launch of D’Athirah Enterprise Magic Sewing Academy located next to Wisma Saberkas yesterday.

She added Shell Malaysia had granted over RM4.2 million to more than 100 projects under the programme throughout the nation.

Speaking at the launch of D’Athirah Enterprise Magic Sewing Academy at Jalan Green here yesterday, she said the academy would become the main catalyst to improve the livelihood of the B40 community, particularly women who were interested in sewing.

Last year, D’Athirah Enterprise, which is owned by Nur Athirah Razali, a Sarawakian, received from Shell Malaysia financial grants for sustainable development projects benefitting the local community.

The academy at Jalan Green is the second to be set up after its first one in Selangor.
