Ship detained for investigation.

MIRI: A ship was detained by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) around 17.5 nautical miles to the west of Tanjong Lobang waters on Saturday afternoon.

MMEA Miri director Captain Maritime Mohd Shafie Paing said the ship didn’t have the license to operate.

He said that their patrol team spotted and detained the ship during a routine check in the area.

Further inspection, it was found that the ship was also carrying subsidised diesel without license.

Additionally, the MMEA arrested five crew members, aged between 23 and 34 years old, including the captain because they couldn’t provide proper identification documents.

This case is currently under investigation according to the Merchant Shipping Ordinance of 1952/60 and the Supply Control Act of 1961.
