KUCHING: The Rainforest in the City (RITC) event will light up Kuching Amphitheatre from July 2 to 11.

The first of its kind here, RITC will be one of the events lined up for July as Kuching will be hosting various events as part of the ongoing Visit Sarawak 2019 campaign.

The ten-day event will expose visitors to the culture, adventures, nature, food and festivals that Sarawak has to offer, augmented with music, lights and technology.

In a press conference, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the state’s tourism sector is expanding to become more creative and exciting.

“Next month will be a month filled with various events in the city as we have the Rainforest Fringe Festival and Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) in addition to RITC,” he said in his speech at Basaga Holiday Residences here, yesterday.

He also said that the RITC would act as prelude for this year’s RWMF, inciting the tourism industry here.

“RITC would be an extraordinary event. It will showcase the fusion of nature and technology in pace with the state government’s digital initiative.

“It will combine visual elements with the arts which would attract both the local community and tourists,” he said.

Karim also added that other than that, there will be musical performances throughout the duration of the event.

The RITC event will be held from 8pm to 11pm and entrance is free-of-charge.

Also present together with Karim was Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin; the ministry’s permanent secretary Hii Chang Kee; and Sarawak Tourism Board CEO Sharzede Salleh Askor.
