KOTA SAMARAHAN: The ‘Sia Sitok Sarawak’ intra-state tourism campaign is well-received, said Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

The Sarawak Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister also revealed that he had received a number of requests from West Malaysians, asking to be included as part of the campaign.

However, he noted that the campaign would only cater to Sarawakians and would not extend its availability to Malayans.

“But we will introduce new programmes for those people who are not from Sarawak such as  from West Malaysia, Sabah and Labuan.

“They will be given a discount, but not the 50 percent discount (such as Sia Sitok),” he told the press after officiating at the Samarahan District Merdeka@Komuniti programme organised by Sarawak Information Department at Kota Samarahan Civic Centre here today.

He added that various packages were being offered by the tourism industry sector to facilitate Sarawakians to visit resorts throughout the state.

“This campaign received a very good response from the people of Sarawak.

“For example, the Sarawak River Cruise is currently full because tickets are sold at half price or 50 percent.”

The campaign, which kicked off on July 15 and would end Oct 15, initially set the travel period for the packages to run until Nov 30.

Abdul Karim, during the launch on Aug 18, said there were over 30 intra-state packages offered, including day trips and non-overnight tours, as well as full-board multiple-day trips with accommodation and meals provided in Kuching, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri and Mulu.

He said the Sarawak government also provided subsidies for packages offered only to Sarawakians, thus supporting the local tourism industry.
