She told reporters after their meeting yesterday at her office at the Baitulmakmur building that her ministry would convey the requests of the family members to the Defence Ministry (Mindef).

“What the family members want is a briefing on the operation along with the permission to join SAR personnel in the operation,” she added. “Once we hear from Mindef about the dates, only then can the family members be flown to Langkawi.

“We will be handling the accommodation along with the help of Rumah Sarawak in Kuala Lumpur.” Fatimah revealed that the island was secured by Mindef personnel and that any inbound flight had to obtain prior approval of the ministry first. “That is the assistance we can provide for the time being. “We also discussed the support services that can be offered by the state government.”
