SIBU: The Christmas Parade that will add colour to the festive celebration here will make a comeback this Saturday after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic

This year’s parade will be organised by the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) Sibu branch.

Organising chairperson Pastor Steven Ajan from Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) said the theme for this year is ‘A Saviour has been Born’.

According to him, the programme would begin with a welcome speech by the chairman of ACS Sibu branch, Reverend Jonathan Lau Puong Fuang at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang at 6 pm.

“After that, at about 7 pm the parade will start from Dataran Sibu (behind RH Hotel) to Jalan Bujang Suntong, before going down Jalan Channel, Jalan Mission, Jalan Kampung Nyabor, Jalan Central, Jalan Wong Nai Siong, Jalan Kampung Nyabor, Jalan Ramin and ends at Jalan Kampung Nyabor (in front of Maybank).

“We hope that the churches and organisations we have invited will join the parade and show unity and be happy,” he said in a press conference today.

On the anticipated turnout, Pastor Steven noted that it would be hard to predict as some people were worried about the COVID-19 infection.

“We hope that people will attend, however, we cannot force people if they are not comfortable with it,” he said.

Also present was Bishop Dr Lau Hui Ming of the Sarawak Chinese Annual Conference (SCAC).
