SIBU: The Sibu Indoor Stadium has been selected as the vaccination centre for the second phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme which will be implemented in Sibu beginning tomorrow.

Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee, when speaking here on Sunday, said an estimated 700 to 800 recipients categorised as high-risk groups, the elderly and the disabled will be vaccinated between 8am to 5pm.

“It is held for one day only due to the limited number of vaccines.

“However, we are grateful that Sibu has been chosen as the first division in the state to implement the second phase of the programme,” said the Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister.

He said a total of 96 staff from the Health Ministry (MOH) and its volunteers will be assigned there to facilitate the programme.

Of the total number of staff, Dr Annuar said 20 people have been assigned to give injections to the recipients.

Meanwhile, when asked about when the next programme will be held, he explained that it depends on the supply of vaccines.

“We do not know and are not sure when it will be held again. But if we get the vaccine supply here, we will continue to implement this immunisation programme,” said the Nangka assemblyman.

He said if recipients were not present on the day itself, they would have to wait for their turn in the next round of vaccination due to limited vaccine supply.

Dr Annuar also urged those who had been called for their vaccination to be present according to the scheduled appointments.
