SIBU: The Sibu Jaya-Lanang road project promised by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government during the last general election will be continued by the state government.

This was confirmed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during his Raya visit to Education and Technological Research Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee’s residence at Jalan Kangkong here, yesterday.

“The 6km road construction project has been awarded to a contractor, and is scheduled for completion in two and a half years.

“The Sibu Jaya-Lanang shortcut is an alternative route for Sibu Jaya residents to go to Sibu,” he explained.

Abang Johari also said that the fire victims at Kampung Datu/Kampung Hilir will be given priority for affordable housing projects in Kemunyang which is expected to be completed within two years.

According to him, a total of 813 lots have been allocated under the project which is run by phase.

Abang Johari and his wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang made Hari Raya visit to Temenggung Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce at Jalan Jasmin and then to former Igan MP Datuk Wahab Dolah at Kampung Nangka.

Also present were Coastal Road Assistant Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi, Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Assistant Minister Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali and Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
