SIBU: A mural project as an appreciation for the struggle of the frontliners in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic has been launched today (Oct 20) at PETRONAS Raminway here.

The ‘Into Ramin Way’ Mural Project featuring mural paintings of frontliners comprising policemen, health workers, firefighters, People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA) and the PETRONAS personnel caught the attention of people who walked past.

According to Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang Ming Tee, the project which was done in collaboration with PETRONAS involved turning an empty wall into something with a message.

“So, this morning the message that we want to deliver is to give honour to the frontliners who have served us during the COVID-19 pandemic for the past two years.

“Apart from that we are also expressing our mural art (in Sibu) as well as beautifying our town buildings. As I say we want to turn our back lanes into something beautiful.

“Mural art with a message will make it very interesting and we can attract people not only to visit the front part of the building but also we have a pleasant surprise behind the building (with the mural),” he said when met by reporters after the launching ceremony.

On the project, Tiang noted that it was the second project under the Into Ramin Way Mural Project, the first was the 2D models in the back of a building at the back of Jalan Raminway that was launched earlier this year.

“Together with Raminway Recreation Club, we will get more buildings to be transformed with mural art with the different mural artists. We have obtained some consent from the building owners for the projects. This is just the beginning,” he said.

Meanwhile, PETRONAS Head Regional Retail for Sabah and Sarawak, Azaidie Selli expressed his gratitude to those who worked together for the success of the mural painting, especially to the muralist, Kong Chak Kiong @ Jagung and his team.
