Sibu police arrest two motorcyclists for recklessness

The two youths were taken to Sibu IPD for further action after they were spotted riding their motorcycles dangerously last night.

SIBU: The traffic police here arrested two youths for riding their motorcycles recklessly last night.

Police said an operation codenamed Ops Samseng Jalanan was carried out in Jalan Bujang Suntong (Dataran Sibu) from 9.30pm to 2.30am.

During the operation, two motorcyclists aged 18 and 21 were arrested for performing dangerous stunts on the road.

They were taken to the Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further action under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act, 1987.

If convicted, they can be sentenced to jail for a term of up to five years or be fined up to RM15,000.

Another motorcyclist is being investigated under Section 108 of the Road Transport Act, 1987 for displaying a fake registration number.

Meanwhile, police confiscated eight motorcycles under Section 64 of the same Act. They also issued a total of 44 summonses to motorists for various offences.

Ops Samseng Jalanan was carried out in Jalan Bujang Suntong, Sibu last night.
