SIBU: The Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) will conduct a study on 1,500 Covid-19 patients in Categories 1 and 2.

Its coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee said the study will focus on the follow-up development of their health status to find out the number of patients whose health conditions worsened to a more severe level, namely to Categories 3, 4 and 5.

He said that the study will be conducted jointly by SEGi University Clinical Sibu Campus and Sibu Divisional Health Office.

“Of course, there are cases in Category 1 and 2 where their health level deteriorated to Category 3 to 5 here.

“But we need a prospective study to be completed to provide comprehensive data,” he said during a live stream on the Covid-19 situation in Sibu on Saturday.

Dr Annuar said that between September 12 and 17, there were 788 Category 1 Covid-19 cases (46.71 percent) and 897 Category 2 cases (53.17 percent) in Sibu District

“There were only two cases or 0.12 percent in Category 3 while no cases were recorded for Category 4 and 5.

“The Covid-19 vaccine has worked wonders in reducing critical cases not only in Sibu but also in case records throughout Sarawak,” he said.

Apart from that, he reminded that Sarawakians or non-Sarawakians who wish to enter the state must include their respective rt-PCR results.

The Education, Science and Technological Research Assistant Minister explained that if anyone failed to submit their documents, their application would be automatically rejected by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
