KUCHING: Bukit Kemuyang has been identified as another centre for expanding the development of Sibu town.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the area would also be connected to Bukit Lima and Kampung Nangka.

“This will become a commercial area,” he said when officiating at SMC’s 40th-anniversary celebration via Zoom on Tuesday (Nov 2).

“I think we have to plan Sibu in such a way that people can come and at the same time we will develop the real estate. This will become a source of revenue for Sibu in terms of real estate,” he said.

He said Bukit Lima had also been approved as a nature reserve to be a green area, explaining that each city must have a location for people to enjoy recreation.

“I have instructed the Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) and Land and Survey Department (JTS) to declare Bukit Lima as a nature reserve,” he said, adding that this was similar to Piasau Nature Reserve in Miri and Sama Jaya Nature Reserve in Kuching.

He said one of the various big projects in the pipeline to transform Sibu was the redevelopment of Bukit Assek.

“We have a special committee to regenerate and redevelop Bukit Assek,” said Abang Johari.

He said he had requested the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) to work together with Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) to redevelop Bukit Assek.

“This is a very a momentous task because it needs a lot of cooperation among the agencies as well as the people in Bukit Assek,” he said.
