Si’ib Festival able to boost tourism in Lundu

LUNDU: The Si’ib Festival has the potential to become a major attraction for local tourism in the Lundu district.

Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said that the annual festival, closely tied to the historical significance of Kampung Selampit 1, is suitable to be highlighted and incorporated into the district’s annual tourism calendar.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Si’ib Festival 2023, held in conjunction with the 84th anniversary of Kampung Selampit, Billy expressed his enthusiasm for promoting the event.

“The Si’ib Festival, which takes place annually in Kampung Selampit, Lundu, holds immense potential to become a prominent festival in Lundu’s tourism calendar,” he said during the event yesterday (June 2).

He further emphasised that under the governance of the Unity and Sarawak governments, Sarawak has long been a proponent of racial harmony.

“We can witness the presence of various ethnicities and nationalities who gather to experience the vibrancy of the Si’ib Festival,” he said.In addition, Billy announced that he would collaborate with Mas Gading Member of Parliament (MP) Mordi Bimol, to upgrade the festival grounds periodically.

During the event, Billy also presented a grant of RM15,000 to the Si’ib Festival committee.

The festival showcased a variety of captivating activities, including the Dayung Sangon beauty pageant, Onak Gawea Si’ib Competition, and the Blowpipe Contest, as well as open houses hosted by the local residents.
