Single mother released on good behaviour bond

KUCHING: A single mother who pleaded guilty to soliciting for the purpose of prostitution two years ago, was released on a two-year good behaviour bond on Friday (Sept 3).

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali also imposed a RM5,000 bail with one local surety after Terina Kunyan from Serian had the charges read to her.

The 49-year-old accused was charged under Section 372B of the Penal Code which carries a jail term up to one year or a fine, or both, if convicted.

Earlier, the accused had appealed for the sentence to be reduced as she is a single mother with three children.

According to the facts of the case, police raided a premises at LSL 9, Jalan Sekama around 9pm on Nov 15, 2019.

The police found that the accused was with ‘customers’ and a policeman who acted as an undercover agent.

Police also seized an unopened pack of condoms during the raid.

Investigations found that the accused had solicited RM50 per customer for her services.

The prosecution was handled by prosecuting officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad while the accused was not represented.
